An urban county of about 210,000 residents and spread across 26 square miles, Arlington VA is located across the Potomac River from Washington DC. It is well connected with Washington DC by roads, railways and the Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport.

Founded in the early 1800s as Alexandria County, the General Assembly of Virginia changed its name to Arlington County in 1920. It is also the smallest self-governing county in the US. Arlington, VA has earned a number of recognitions, most notable it was ranked number one among the wakable cities in the country by the American Podiatric Medicall association in 2005. In 2006 it was ranked the most educated city in the country by CNN Money. Also in 2006 it ranked among the twenty counties with the highest median household income.
